Dawson ISD Dedicates "Golden Lane" Sidewalk

The Dawson Independent School District dedicated a new sidewalk, aptly named "Golden Lane" to honor the memory of Katie Golden, a beloved employee who dedicated 30 years of her life to the district. Katie left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students and staff members.

Katie Golden's dream was to cover the sidewalk that runs from the bus ramp to the school with an awning, ensuring that students stayed dry during rainy days. She often joked that if she ever won the lottery, this would be her first project. Following her passing, her wishes were in lieu of flowers and condolence gifts sent to the family, to send donations for this project. Dawson ISD was able to fulfill her wish, installing the awning and painting the sidewalk gold with sparkles, a tribute to her “sparkling spirit”.

The sidewalk features a unique plaque at the end with a tube of lipstick, a nod to Katie's signature red lips and ever-present tube of lipstick in her purse. Principal Andrea Farish shared her thoughts on the dedication, saying, "Katie touched the lives of so many students throughout the years of her time at Dawson ISD. To be able to honor her with this project makes my heart warm to know that her legacy will be remembered for years to come."

The "Golden Lane" sidewalk stands as a testament to Katie Golden's enduring legacy - and a daily reminder to our students and staff of her love and dedication to her favorite people…the Dawson Bulldog community.
